I believe that all students can be creative individuals, divergent thinkers, and risk takers. In my art classroom, students actively explore social issues, learn about other cultures, express personal identities, and collaborate with others and their community with a student-centered, choice-based curriculum. They acquire art skills, techniques, and history as well as navigate and interpret our current society through discussions, research, and artmaking. Through a variety of scaffolding lessons, I promote students’ self-confidence and artistic development in a safe, equitable, and supportive learning environment.
I encourage students to be introspective, reflective, and conceptual scholars by discovering and experimenting with different fine art medias as well as digital technology to visually communicate their thoughts, ideas, and perspectives. I integrate essential 21st century skills, align lessons with standards and district goals, and perform a variety of assessment strategies that assist with students’ engagement, intellectual growth, and digital citizenship.
